When Thinking Small Actually Leads to BIG Results

So, you hear about the magical powers of thinking big: creating your amazing, expansive vision for your life and business and working from that place

Thinking big and having a clear vision about where you want to be and stepping into owning your true awesomeness is very important.Yes, I get that.  AND…

…there are times where thinking big in your business actually sabotages your success.

I’m going to share with you three examples of where I want you to think small (and generate massive results because of it).

Like, for example, when you write an email.

When you send out an email to your marketing list, is it “Hey everybody!” or is it, “Hey Jane!”?

I teach my clients to think about one person and to write to that one person.  When I put together an email to send out to people in my community, I imagine that I’m writing to an ideal client.  One ideal client.

Not only does this make writing it soooo much easier, but it’s also so much easier for the person on the other end of the email to connect with what you have to say.

And please, oh please, don’t ever say that you are going to send out an email “blast.” No one wants to be “blasted,” especially your ideal clients.

Or, when you are hosting a local workshop and you’d love to have the room full of your ideal clients.

One of my clients consistently sells out her local workshops. We put together a marketing plan for her that’s not only easy to follow but actually requires very little work on her part.

The hardest part of the work is when I challenge her to think small.

We start by looking at how many people she’d love to have in the room.

Then we make a list of who she can reach out to personally, by phone (remember the phone?), to invite?

I ask her to consider who she knows, personally, that she’d be honored to have in the room with her.  Which of her current clients would benefit from attending?  What about past workshop attendees?  Or their colleagues and friends?  Which ideal clients that said “no” in the past 6 months might be able to step into this type of work with her?  Or what about the people she loves that are in her yoga class?

When we break it down and look at the pieces of the puzzle from this small perspective, all of the sudden things get easier.

And more clear.

And the clients and income start to come in consistently and more easily.

(By the way, this is exactly what your ego wants to avoid: getting clear).

The last place – and the one that most people resist – is choosing an ideal client.

It can feel scary, I get it.

It’s also the most liberating thing that you can do.

If you’re sensing resistance as you read this, I invite you to consider who is driving your bus.  Are you coming from a place of lack or a place of abundance?  (Hint: if you’re feeling scared and worry that narrowing your focus will only narrow your chances at bringing on clients, then fear is driving your bus.)

What if it’s possible that there are more clients than you could ever serve, even in the most narrow of niches, and that they are all out there, just waiting for you?

What if it’s possible that by narrowing your target market, you are allowing yourself to move forward and get more clear?  And serve more clients, and at a higher level?

What if any decision that you make about your ideal client today isn’t permanent?

(By the way, all of those things are possible for you if you get over yourself and let your ego quiet down for a few minutes.)

Would it be OK with you if things started to get a little easier?

Once you take a few minutes to do this, though, I must warn you: opportunities will start to “show up” and growing your business will become easier.  Your story of how hard things are will have to be discarded.

So my challenge for you today is this: find one place in your life or business where thinking big is sabotaging your results.  It may be making your next step(s) feel unclear, hard, and maybe even impossible.

Share what you come up with below.  I’ll respond with ideas about how you can allow yourself to get more clear.  And remember, imperfect action brings clarity.  And clarity allows results to show up with grace and ease…
